36 FLIGHTS · 110,607 KM · 8 COUNTRIES · 10 CITIES
January 1st I went on my first of 36 flights for the year. I travelled to my home town Auckland, New Zealand. Every year I like to go back home to visit my friends and family and eat all the delicious food that I love! My favourite is the Japanese restaurant Masu (fun fact I even saw Oprah Winfrey dining there on one of my visits) you have probably seen countless Instagram stories of me dining there. A trip to Auckland is never complete without a visit to Queen Street where the luxury shops are. Travelling on the 1st really set the tone for the rest of the year because in 2018 I travelled to 8 countries and 10 cities.
I started February off by heading to my favourite city Melbourne, which ended being a recurring trip through out the year. The Melbourne skyline is one of my favourites to watch from South Bank. Enjoying a gelato while watching the lights come up across the city reflecting off the Yarra River is such a wonderful experience.
In March I trekked 15 hours across the Indian Ocean to visit United Arab Emirates. Dubai had been on the top of my list of places I wanted to visit so I was really excited when I was able to visit earlier this year. We decided to stay in Abu Dhabi and it was so funny because I ended up loving Abu Dhabi more than Dubai. I loved how authentic and cultural it was. It was such a great experience to see how different countries are across the world. Visiting Ferrari World and Dubai Miracle Gardens were some of my favourites as well as the opportunity to stay at the beautiful Jumeirah Beach Hotel.
I ended the month of March in Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. I saw some of the most beautiful sunsets and views whilst I was there. We spent 3 days driving from Melbourne down to Mornington, Rye and Sorrento. It was so nice just to unwind and explore the different parts of Victoria. We spent a day at the Peninsula Hot Springs and it was such a relaxing day. If you are ever in the area I would definitely recommend a trip to the Hot Springs.
April took me back to Melbourne for my cousins wedding. It was a wonderful wedding and I got to wear a really pretty self-portrait dress. A trip to Melbourne however is not complete without strolling the streets of Melbourne city my two favourites are Bourke Street and Collins Street of course!
Another cousins wedding in May meant a trip to Fiji. I spent the rest of the trip after the wedding ‘hotel hopping’ and enjoying some of the beautiful beaches in Fiji. I go to Fiji a lot but I always gets excited by the beautiful scenery and sunsets I get to see while I’m there.
In June I decided to to travel locally. I took a trip to Gold Coast and had a great time exploring Gold Coast and its wonderful beaches and scenery. I love visiting Gold Coast especially heading to Pacific Fair where some of the best shopping is!
Visiting Kuala Lumpur was another city ticked off my bucket list of all the cities I would like to visit. It was so much better than I expected. I loved strolling the Kuala Lumpur City Centre enjoying a bit of nature as well as admiring the architecture of the Petronas’ Towers. Visiting Temples was another favourite in Kuala Lumpur and definitely a must do if you visit.
Although it’s hard for me to pick my favourite destination this year I really think I have to say Koh Yao Noi was my favourite. The tree house we stayed at was fantastic. Definitely one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at with great friendly staff, great spa treatments and more. It was a week of pure relaxation where there is nothing else to do but enjoy your surroundings and swim all day, every day. If you ever head to Thailand I would totally recommend staying at the Tree House Villas if you are looking for a vacation full of relaxation.
I’ve always wanted to drive along Great Ocean Road and see the twelves apostles so in August we decided to do just that. We decided to go in the colder months so that the roads were a little quieter and the tourist spots weren’t as busy. One of my favourite things this trip was going up the Cape Otway Lighthouse and seeing the amazing ocean go on for miles and miles, however while enjoying that view I almost blew away because it was so so so windy!
I headed back to Fiji straight after Great Ocean Road and this trip I stayed at Intercontinental. The most amazing thing I saw on my stay there were the sunsets. Every single night it was so different yet equally as beautiful every time.
Finally, in August my last trip was back to Auckland to visit my family and friends again. We strolled through the city and Wynyard Quarter and once again I ate a lot of food!
September took me to Singapore. It was my second time visiting Singapore and it was even better than the last. I love exploring Singapore, one of my favourites is Marina Bay Sands (another fun fact, I purchased my first ever Louis Vuitton handbag from the floating store) and Ion Orchard which I visited every day because I love it there. Last trip I didn’t get the chance to go to Gardens by the Bay so I put it at the top of my to see list this time around. It was more beautiful than I expected, if there is anything I recommend seeing its Gardens by the Bay.
A day after my birthday which I spent in bed with a very nasty flu I flew to Bali, Indonesia another amazing destination. The most amazing thing was the Padma Resort in the middle of the Ubud rainforest. We stayed there for 9 straight days and it was so relaxing. We enjoyed a floating breakfast in the infinity pool and lazed by the pool every single day.
My final trip to Melbourne this year was in November. Again, I spent my time strolling through my favourite streets and hunting out cafes across the various arcades and laneways in Melbourne. Melbourne is one of my favourite cities in the world so I love being able to visit so often. Maybe one day I’ll even move there, who knows..
Finally, I ended my year in Fiji with my family for Christmas.
I’ve had such an amazing year full of travel and to be able to see so many new places has been so rewarding I really hope I can continue to travel in the new year and experience new cities, countries and cultures (I won’t be complaining if it’s return visits to places I’ve already been though). Thank you so much for following my journey through 2018 and I will see you back here next year ☺️
